I think we are all a little tuckered out today after our long day on the road yesterday.  We stopped to photograph at many beautiful places along the way, and didn't arrive at the Hali Country Guesthouse until early evening.

This morning was spent by three of us getting up early to wander around the grounds and photograph before breakfast.  It was an incredibly calm place with many birds calling out to welcome the morning.  Today was shaping up to be beautiful.  So far there was little wind, and I just hoped that it would stay that way for the remainder of the day.

We photographed at the fabled iceberg filled lagoon Jokulsarlon enjoying the sun and the beauty of the place.  It was a changed place from last night, but we have realized that the number of icebergs that flow out of the lagoon and come to rest on the beach is dependent upon whether the tide is coming in or going out.  Last night it was trippy to see the channel flowing inland with very few icebergs on the beach, and while we were there it switched direction and began to flow out as the tide started to recede.  Viola!  There were now icebergs showing up along the banks of the channel and along the coastal shoreline.  Isn't Mother Nature awe inspiring?

We have arrived in Hofn and will be here for two nights.  It's a delight to slow down this afternoon, clean the camera gear and rest.

Black Sand Beaches and Mighty Winds

We were on some of the most incredible black sand beaches today, and I was loving the textures and lines in the basalt columns and other rock formations.  I don't think there was any place today to get out of the wind except in the cave at the first beach.

The glass of red wine was a welcome evening treat following our evening outing.  I've never photographed in such howling, relentless wind.  I'm surprised I wasn't blown clear back to Oregon.  Bed is a welcome, calm environment.  Good night from the southern most place on mainland Iceland, the farthest north I've ever been.

Blown away.

I have to say - I've been blown away from the minute I got here but today crazy arctic winds blew a winter's worth of cobwebs out of my brain. It was great to be in such a beautiful, fierce, and relentless force of nature all day long!

I marvel at how dedicated and focused everyone is.Not being a photographer myself, it is interesting to me how they all watch the light...after our evening meal I was thinking about cake and beer, they were pining out the window raring to get back at it. This is truly a hardworking bunch. Here's another snapshot from me. The non-photographer.

I know, it looks like they are photographing the ditch. I think maybe something more is going on here.

A nice time.

What a nice time this is.
To be in such an unusual place on Earth and to be in this other worldly frame of mind.
To look around and think and draw and be totally open to what ever happens next.
Not wanting the day to end but excited for the next one to begin.

Sunset - Westmann Islands

It's been a long day of moving about, but we've settled for the night in the Westmann Islands off the south coast of Iceland. Tired and getting ready to rest up for another day, but before hitting the pillow, I thought I'd share tonight's sunset with you. Enjoy!

Jerry

Jerry Basierbe
I think Jerry's already having a pretty good time.

Lavinia's Cool Hasselblad!

Lavinia wins for coolest camera. I want one!

The Mighty Gullfoss

It's been awhile since I've been to Gullfoss and it was good to get back there today and burn some film. Normally it takes me a couple days to get into the swing of shooting on a trip, but this was different. I'm feeling it already and looking forward to what is yet to come. Great weather, a great group of people to travel and work with. I can tell this is going to be a good one.

We Made It!

After an incredibly long day of travel and delays in our flights caused by a strike at Iceland's Keflavik Airport, we're finally here! We all finally grouped about 9:30 this morning and are now on the road. Just down the road from Gullfoss for the night after some healthy time shooting, it is finally time to lay head to pillow and sleep deep (I hope!)

This is a great group to be traveling with and I look forward to our next 8 days together, traveling and making some good photographs.

Paperwork for an Adventure

It's no small feat planning and pulling together a trip, but all the stress melts away upon departure. Thankfully we'll be on the road soon. Eight nights, five hotels, two ferries and some seriously beautiful land to cover. We're all set and I can't wait! Hope everyone is getting packed!

I'll see you all in Iceland on Saturday morning. Have a safe trip all!

I Hope I Am On Board!!!!

I think this may work. Let me know.   Linda

Get On The Bus!

It's time for a journey to Iceland!

Time to get ready for an online adventure. Follow 8 photographers as they travel in this beautiful and wild country. Brought to you through stories, photographs and videos, you can watch the trip unfold through posts from those on the actual trip.

We are traveling the beautiful south coast from Keflavik to Djupavogur and including the Westmann Islands. Judging from past trips, this one will one to remember and I hope you will click "follow" and keep tuned in as we go. The trip leaves April 25, 2014 and runs through May 4.  Don't miss the bus!
